What began as an idea shared by a few dog owners - to train dogs to help locate lost people - became Search and Rescue Dogs of Maryland (SARDOM) in 1991. SARDOM is an all-volunteer, non-profit search and rescue unit utilizing airscenting dogs. SARDOM is available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week to law enforcement, fire/rescue units, and relief agencies and provides its services at no cost to the requesting agency.
